A guy with Surinamese roots goes on a journey, searching for his identity. On this journey he meets a mysterious Surinamese lady, which leads to a search through Suriname.
The film Lobi Singi ensures that the viewer experiences and experiences the culture of Suriname in 2014-2015 through the eyes of a Surinamese. For the soundtrack of the film we make a new version of the classic “Lobi Singi” from Suripop 1994, in which the old and new generations work together on a new and refreshing version. This cooperation is stimulated because the younger generation can learn a lot from the old generation and vice versa, so that we can achieve a better result.
It is a film that not only pays tribute to the auditory and visual classics such as “WAN PIPEL” and “LOBI SINGI”, but also shows that no matter where you are, the search really starts with yourself.
The relationship between Suriname and the Netherlands is discussed in more detail and the different cultures in Suriname are zoomed in on through specifically selected characters and cultural aspects, where the film ends with the original inhabitants of Suriname.
Nature and animals occupy an important theme in the film, which symbolizes the themes of freedom, spirituality and redemption. The viewer takes a journey through the city of Paramaribo and the Amazon jungle and experiences modern Suriname from the eyes of a modern Surinamese.
